Profile: Enthusiastic miniaturist, born i Copenhagen, Denmark 1978. Married to musicianand together we have a three year old daughter. I study to become a mediagraphic designer and I spend my spare time making miniatures. I have for many years now, been interested in period interiors, art history, history of clothing and how people have lived through time. Basicly anything to do with art as expressed through people's interpretation of the society, culture and time they're living in. I like to try and recreate a specific time and style through, for example miniature furniture. But I also enjoy painting and drawing, although I don't spend much time on it. Somehow the world of miniatures have got my first priority, perhaps because I can sit with a "physical" piece in my hand to touch, turn and watch closely etc. and not just a one dimensional flat object as a drawing. When making a miniature furniture I often get inspired from pictures of antiquities in magazines or interior books, period rooms etc. I have sort of "trained" myself to determine, when looking at a picture of a furniture, whether I can make it in miniature or not. There are often a lot of furniture I would love to make but aren't capable of, due to the amount of wood they often consists of. I make the furniture primarily out of thick card but also use balsa wood and of cause lots of fabric. I attempt to get as close to the original furniture in style, shape, colour and fabric as posible, but it has it's limits to work with miniatures. Fabrics are often large patterned and the fact that the size must be so small, makes it hard to cut, shape and mould those tiny things. Vicky Kleist, Denmark. | ||
